Profesionals Nerang Celebrates 40 Years

As probably the longest-established real estate office in the Gold Coast region, Professionals Nerang has much to celebrate in their 40th year. Upgrading of the company's historic premises, expanding the sales team and establishing a vital presence in Gold Coast commercial real estate are just some of the initiatives now underway.

The office has had only two Principals in four decades, the first being pioneer grazier and developer, the late Arthur Earle. Current owner, Colin Meagher, has steered the company's fortunes since 1986.

Arthur Earle is generally credited with the opening of the Gold Coast hinterland to residential and commercial development. As a former sheep and cattle dealer from western Queensland, he moved to the Gold Coast in 1964 and established his first realty office in a tin shed on the site of the old Bartletts Barn hotel in Station Street.

He later built an elegant purpose-designed, two storey premises on the corner of Price and Lavelle Streets, in Nerang which was officially opened in 1982 by Cr Bill Laver, the then deputy chairman of the Albert Shire. The office traded as Nerang Land Sales until the sale of the business eight years later.

Arthur's contributions to the community were enormous. The original track he ploughed through his grazing land has now become part of the Pacific Motorway. He established the Earle Haven retirement complex and the Allambe Memorial Park Cemetery and together with Singapore businessman Robin Loh, designed and launched the suburb of Robina, Australia's largest fully planned commercial and residential development.

Colin Meagher, the current Principal of The Professionals Nerang, continues the tradition of community involvement, having served 18 years as Ringmaster and later President of the RNA for many years. In addition to serving on various other Boards and Trusts, including Parklands and the Jupiters Trust, Colin has been patron of the Queensland Pony Club Association since its inception and proudly points out that pony clubs form one of the biggest youth movements in Australia.

Colin says that many of the Gold Coast's major property industry figures first earned their stripes at the hinterland office. He is proud that Professionals Nerang is recognised as the leader in residential, acreage and hinterland property sales plus property management, but says that the emergence of Nerang as a thriving industrial centre requires the company's expansion into the field of commercial real estate.

As a part of Professionals Nerang's ongoing expansion and revitalisation program, a new Commercial Division has been established, utilising the skills of fully qualified personnel to assist with not only leasing and sales, but to assist developers in acquiring and establishing new commercial-industrial properties.
